Putting Your Faith Into Action

big wavesI was having my devotions this morning on the book of Romans and while reading chapter 4 about the story of Abraham there was one verse that caught my attention once more. In Romans 4:20 it says, “Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God.”

In Amplified Translation it means, “No unbelief or distrust made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong and was empowered by faith as he gave praise and glory to God.”

The writer mentioned about the word “praise.” Do you know how powerful praise is? Praise means the expression of respect and gratitude as an act of worship. In other words, praise is putting your faith into action or it’s a total dependency in God in every situation in your life. Just as putting your physical body into action makes it grow stronger (like running it will give you endurance and when you exercise it will develop and form your muscles), the same goes by putting your faith into action through prayer and with thanksgiving will cause it to grow strong too.

I like what this verse says about Abraham: No unbelief made him waver regarding the promise of God. To waver actually means to go back and forth. It’s a very unsteady posture. Spiritual wavering is when we go back and forth in believing in the promises of God. Spiritual wavering shows up in our words and actions. When you speak contrary to God’s promises, you are wavering and unsteady. Notice this verse didn’t say that Abraham never had unbelief or doubting thoughts. It says that he didn’t waiver–he didn’t allow his words or actions to go against God no matter what he was thinking. He took captive every thought and stood strong through His praise and worship! As we praise Him and seek His face it will make us stable and strong. It’s hard to be negative when you are singing a song of praise to Him.

In the midst of trials, testings and tribulations we encounter in life put your faith in God no matter what you experience. You must remain steadfast and keep still. And with what’s happening in our nation nowadays. Decide today to stand strong in worship. Put your faith into action with your words and watch what God will do on your behalf!

Question: What makes you remain steadfast in God’s promises no matter what happens?
